  7. GENERAL 
  8. INFORMATION:   We had a customer running NetWare v3.0 on a model 80 with 
  9.                Token-Ring LAN boards.  He attempted to attach Macs to the 
  10.                server through a nondedicated bridge.  The bridge was a 
  11.                model 30-286 with 2 Token-Ring adapters and 1 NL1000 board.  
  12.                Every time he would attempt to load the VAPs at the bridge, 
  13.                he would get a GPI at the file server.
  14.  
  15.                We went through all the standard Mac trouble shooting steps, 
  16.                such as reloading the VAPs, deleting and reinstalling the 
  17.                VAPs with MACSETUP, checking the bridge hardware and memory, 
  18.                and regenerating the BRIDGE.EXE.  We were down to changing 
  19.                the bridge machine to something else or sending out new 
  20.                VAPs that we know work when the customer said that he was 
  21.                running the CONFIX patch at the file server.  He then said 
  22.                that he recently downloaded the new CONFX2 patch and 
  23.                replaced the old CONFIX patch with the new CONFX2 patch.  
  24.                After changing the patch at the file server and loading the 
  25.                VAPs on the bridge, the GPI did not happen again.

  27.                We came to two conclusions:

  29.                1.  In the 386 environment, GPIs can come from anywhere in 
  30.                the network.
  31.  
  32.                2.  Start checking for other patches that may be causing 
  33.                problems as part of your trouble shooting steps.
